Suicide Prevention Programming: Denver Public Schools provides preventative training to students that align with depression awareness and suicide prevention. At Kaiser Elementary, the Riding the Waves curriculum will be provided to all 5th grade students. Lessons address healthy emotional development, depression, and anxiety. The overarching goal is to build the emotional skills within children to prevent suicide at the earliest stages (2017 Crisis Clinic).
Kaiser Elementary School uses the BrainWise curriculum in all grade levels! BrainWise – Learning how to stop and think, control emotions, and make good choices are skills that underlie success. Students who complete the BrainWise Program are making better choices and better decisions, which allow them to live happier and healthier lives!
Kaiser Elementary School uses the Behavior and Emotional Screening System (BESS)! The BESS is a universal social and emotional screening tool that provides a systematic way of looking at data within a population, which could be an entire school or an entire grade level. DPS uses the BESS in over 150 schools district wide. The purpose of screening all students is to provide a proactive approach to student needs. Data from the screening areas is used to drive decisions and provide students with equal access to interventions and supports.
