Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Throughout the school day teachers and staff pass out Golden Tickets to students that are showing the Kaiser PRIDE character traits (Prepared, Respect & Caring, Inclusive, Disciplined & Effort). Students receive a prize when their name is picked by their teacher and weekly by the SEL team.
Each week grade levels choose a Student of the Week. Those students receive a goodie bag with small prizes and have their picture on the monthly community slideshow.
Each month grade levels choose a Student of the Month. Teachers celebrate those students during the monthly community meeting with a photo and short summary of how they have shown their Kaiser PRIDE during the last month. Afterwards the photos are shared with the school community in the display case by the main office.
Restorative Practices
The purpose of RP is to create safe and trusted relationships – both individual and community-wide. Through the use of restorative practices, schools proactively plan and respond to community needs in a less punitive way. It is critical to remember that a Restorative climate and culture is the foundation upon which we can build healthy relationships, engage in community building, and then offer alternative community practices when harm occurs.
During mediation and or peace circles, five questions are asked:
What happened?
Who was directly or indirectly harmed/affected?
What part is each person responsible for?
Who will repair the harm?
And finally, what would prevent this from happening again, or what can I do differently next time?
