My name is Lezlie Sauer and this is my ninth year as a school nurse with Denver Public Schools and my first year working at Kaiser Elementary School. I am very fortunate to be job-sharing Kaiser with an awesome nurse, Tania Guy. She will be at Kaiser on Wednesday and I will be here on Thursday. I currently work at two different schools and care for students ranging from preschool through eighth grade. Last year I worked at three different schools, which included a high school. The children whom I care for range in age from 3 years to 15 years. I spend four days of the week working with students in preschool through eighth grade. I currently have a license with the Colorado Department of Public Health as a Child Care Health Consultant. This enables me to supervise and work with ECE or preschools and home daycare facilities.
I graduated with a degree in Nursing from the University of Colorado at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Pediatrics was one of my favorite clinical rotations during nursing school. I love working with children. They are so curious, resilient and hopeful. Children inspire us all to become better human beings.
Prior to becoming a Registered Nurse, I worked to coordinate tissue and eye transplants, which was fascinating from a medical standpoint and extremely rewarding from a personal perspective. Before moving to Colorado in 1995 I lived in Utah. I worked for a rehab hospital in a variety of positions: Administrative Assistant to the Director of Nursing, Rehab Technician and Massage Therapist. I also volunteered with Community Nursing Services and Hospice as well as the Utah Aids Foundation. I have a passion for hospice care and feel very honored to spend time caring for and being with people during the last phase of their lives.
I have been married for 28 years. My husband is an Environmental Scientist and has worked all over the world cleaning up toxic mine sites. I have an 18-year old son who finished his first year of college last year. He is going to take a break from school and travel to Thailand for a month and possibly make his way to Japan. He is a very kind-hearted and creative “kid” who hopes to become an electrical or mechanical engineer someday. I have a young, energetic mini australian shepherd named Chai who keeps me moving! I love to be outside: camping, hiking, biking, skiing, gardening – whatever! I also love to travel and have been fortunate to visit places like South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, Nepal, South America and Europe. My husband and I did a trek in Nepal in 1999 and almost reached the base camp of Makalu, the fifth highest mountain in the world. It was definitely a life-changing experience. While the mountains, oceans, flora and fauna were pretty spectacular, it was the people I met that had the biggest impact on my life.
